5 tasty oven bake recipes to try

Cooking a meal for your family can be both a joy and a burden, depending on how much time you have and what ingredients are available. Busy families need quick, easy and healthy meals every night of the week, but often it’s a task much harder than it sounds, especially if you’re not a master chef in the kitchen.

If you need some inspiration to change up your weekly meals and add a few new recipes into the mix, here are five oven bake recipes that the whole family will enjoy.

Lasagne

A family favourite for decades past, the classic lasagne dish is a family favourite and can be super quick to make. Cook up some mince in a tomato sauce and layer it in an oven-safe dish between sheets of pasta and then pop it in the oven to bake while you carry on with your to-do list. The best part about lasagna is that you can hide quite a few vegetables in the mince, so it’s perfect if you’ve got fussy kids.

Pasta Bake

Another family favourite is the humble pasta bake because it’s always a hit with the kids and is also a very versatile dish. The possibilities are endless when it comes to pasta bake, so you never have to cook the same thing twice. Choose your favourite pasta, select your meat of choice (chorizo, chicken, tuna, beef, prawn and pork all work well with pasta) and then add your sauce and any extras, such as tomato, onion, broccoli, bacon and asparagus. Sprinkle some parmesan or mozzarella over the top and bake in the oven until the top appears golden brown and the pasta is cooked all the way through.

Potato Bake

Potato bake is the perfect accompaniment to so many meals, and it’s also a popular choice if you’re having guests around for a barbeque. Make your potato bake a deluxe version and add bacon, onion, shallots and cheese before baking it in the oven to perfection.

Quiche

Quiche is the perfect meal to whip up when time is limited and you haven’t had a chance to go to the supermarket. The beauty of quiche is that you can put almost anything from your fridge in it and you only need a few basic ingredients for its foundation – short crust pastry, eggs, cheese and milk. If there are leftovers, quiche is brilliant as a lunch the next day and taste great hot or cold.

Apple Crumble

Finally, we couldn’t conclude without including a favourite dessert dish straight from your grandmother’s kitchen – the crowd-pleasing apple crumble. It’s perfect for dinner party guests and is a staple recipe all year round – have it warmed with custard and poached fruit in the cooler months, and when summer comes, serve it with a scoop of icecream for a refreshing twist.
