6 great ways to see the UK this Summer

I am always trying to convince my friends to get out and see more of Britain, and perhaps consider ‘staycationing’ instead of going abroad as this country has so much to offer. Holidaying in Britain does not necessarily mean a week underneath thick cloud at a depressing-looking beach resort. There is beautiful countryside, some vibrant cities, and also decidedly less depressing seaside destinations. There are a number of ways you can see the best bits of the British Isles for various costs. They are all good ways to forget about the car, petrol, and parking and enjoy the freedom of doing things on your terms.

Train Trip
Rail Rover tickets enable you to make a number of journeys by train to a group of destinations. A great example is the Coast and Peaks Rover from Northern which allows you to explore the cities of Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and Chester as well as the Peak District with unlimited travel on four days of your choice within eight. There are various other Rover tickets available for different parts of the country.

Coach Holiday
The travel company UK Breakaways run trips to all corners of the British Isles for hassle-free travel and accommodation deals. Whether you want a city break in York or a beach holiday in Brighton, this company will have a deal for you. There are also flexible tickets available from National Express coaches for you to organise your own holiday.

Hitchhiking
Hitchhiking has almost completely died out as an increased lack of trust on both sides has made people think that if hitchhikers themselves are not murderers then the people who pick them up are almost always definitely dangerous. However, bloggers and other daring souls are keeping the tradition alive and as long as you follow certain tips to stay safe it is a cheap and sociable way to travel.

Walking
Britain has a proud history of famous walkers who have made the most of her beautiful scenery and great trails. People like Alfred Wainwright traversed the Lake District and other areas of the north of England and mapped out spectacular routes. There is no better way to take everything in as you go from point A to point B than going by foot.

Cycling
For the more energetic, cycling holidays also offer a great way to see some of the more picturesque parts of the country. UK Cycle Holidays organise trips in the Norfolk and Suffolk area but you can also plan your own journey down disused railways, canals and country paths.

Barge
Also in Norfolk as well as Yorkshire and Wales barge holidays are available to take a trips through the countryside at a slow pace, maybe stop off at a pub or two or just relax with a good book.
