I was recently asked by Flahavan's if I would like to try their porridge oats and create 2 different recipes using them. As you know I eat porridge most mornings, yet had never tried Flahavan's oats so I thought I'd give it a go.
They sent me a lovely package with the oats, a variety of toppings and a #perfectporridge mug, spoon and bowl so I had everything I needed to get started!
The first thing I made was obviously porridge! I have had a few different combinations to see which one I like best. You can do the oats in the microwave or the stove, I chose the microwave as I always go for convenience and quickness but they still turned out great! My favourite combination was using goji berries, chia seeds and pistachios as toppings; I'd never had pistachios as I always go for almonds or hazelnuts but I loved the change and it tasted so good! The oats are so creamy I feel like it is 'proper' traditional porridge and is even more comforting and delicious.
Next up, I tried making a Granola as now we are having some warmer days, I prefer something with cold milk some mornings. Granola is my favourite cereal type product. The oats worked really well, they're bigger than the normal oats I use so they added a better texture to the Granola which was lovely. Here's the recipe I used below!
Chewy fruit granola.
2 cups Flahavan's porridge oats,
1 ripe banana,
3/4 cup water,
2 tbsp honey,
1tsp cinnamon,
2tbsp chia seeds,
1tsp vanilla,
1/4 tsp sea salt,
1/4 cup mixed dried fruit.
Method
1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees. Blitz banana, water, honey, cinnamon, vanilla and salt in a blender/food processor.
2. In a big bowl, mix the dry ingredients. Then add the wet ingredients and mix thoroughly.
3. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper and spread out the mixture onto it.
4. Pop into the oven for around 30 minutes or until golden brown and crunchy on the outside.
I really enjoyed having Flahavan's instead of my regular porridge, it's just as quick and easy but tastes a lot creamier. I also think it helps fill me up more as well because the oats are bigger and gives a better, filling texture. I would definitely buy them again!
