DIY ways to brighten your teeth!

It seems there has been an obsession lately with having the whitest teeth with new products launching here, there and everywhere that claim to give you that perfect sparkling smile. I have tried numerous products to get my teeth as white as possible but since finding some of these tips below, I will be keeping them in mind in the lead up to our wedding!

Banish Stains with Baking Soda
Many use baking soda around the home to remove stains but have you ever thought about using it on your teeth? Baking soda is a very powerful whitener and whilst you can purchase toothpaste that contains this magical ingredient, there’s no harm in making a DIY version, especially if you want something that’s more concentrated.
However, consistent use can cause damage to your enamel so be sure to use regular toothpaste on a day-to-day basis. Use baking soda only when you feel you need to; perhaps before a night out or if you’ve had one too many glasses of red.

Sip Your Way to Whiter Teeth

You may often turn down a straw when offered one, due to not wanting to look child-like or effeminate; however sipping through a straw can provide protection for both teeth and gums. How? A straw can significantly limit the amount of exposure our teeth and gums receive when we’re swigging a drink.
By not using a straw, we’re allowing the liquid to linger in our mouth before swallowing, instead of it going straight to the back of our mouth. Be sure to sip from a straw to save your teeth from cavities and stains.

Snack on Fruit

It’s pretty obvious that snacking on cake, chocolate and sweets is not going to brighten your smile, but that’s not why fruit has made this list – a polar opposite. Fruit makes for a good whitening product because of the acids it contains. These acids are able to oxidise the stains from your teeth.
So which fruits are best to snack on for strain removal? Apples, pears and strawberries; just by eating these fruits, you can often see immediate stain removal however if you really want to see a difference, rub the peel of an orange against your teeth. Stay away from lemons though, the acid of this fruit is too strong and could potentially eat away at your enamel.

Try Coconut Oil Pulling

Coconut oil has many benefits; it can take care of the cuticles, work wonders for your locks, and nourish your lips. But did you know that it can clean your teeth too? Simply put a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for 5 to 20 minutes. Alternatively, add a few drops to your toothbrush and simply brush it on.
Coconut oil pulling helps to reduce the amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth. How? When you swish the oil around your mouth, the bacteria dissolves in the liquid oil. This means that every time you do this, you remove a large amount of the bacteria and plaque in your mouth. Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties so it’s great for your gums as well.

If non of these DIY ways appeal..

Professionally Bleach Your Teeth
DIY bleaching kits can put your health at risk; stomach problems can result due to accidentally swallowing the bleach; your enamel can become damaged and, over time, you could even lose your teeth. Professional whitening treatments will safely whiten your teeth so you can look forward to showing off pearly whites without worrying about any consequences.
