The must-see family West End shows this Christmas

If you're looking to get into the Christmas spirit with your family this festive season, there's no better way to do it than heading to one of the magical family-friendly West End shows. A trip to London's West End is an unforgettable experience for the whole family and special and exciting for both children and adults. We've picked four of the very best to inject a little bit of magic into your Christmas this year.

Made in Dagenham (Adelphi Theatre)

This wonderful new show is perfect for families of young children, as proven by the cast's fantastic appearance on Children In Need this year. What makes this show so incredibly special is the fact it's based on true events. Set in Essex in 1968, the show focuses on the story of Rita O’Grady, who works in the Ford plant stitching seat covers for cars. When Rita and her co-workers find out that they are going to have their pay grade dropped to ‘unskilled,’ Rita leads the gang in a battle for justice. The show is funny, touching and timeless, and is an uplifting, empowering story that will inspire you and your children.

Wicked (Apollo Theatre)

This classic Wizard of Oz story is full of magic, wonder, mythical lands and songs that will have your children asking Father Christmas for the soundtrack! It tells the tale of what happened in Oz before Dorothy arrived, from the perspective of the witches. The lead characters are unlikely friends, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda the good, whose friendship is tested through opposing personalities an a love interest rival. It’s a wonderful story for children, teaching them the value of kindness, whilst having everything you could ever wish for in a fairy tale. The cast features some talent from Incognito Artists who can also be found being the magnificent Singing Waiters when they are not wow-ing on the West End Stage.

Matilda (Cambridge Theatre)

This beloved Roald Dahl tale is a wonderful story that will capture the imaginations of adults and children alike. It tells the tale of young Matilda, a school girl with rotten parents and a very special power. With an ensemble cast full of talented youngsters, children and adults will marvel at the incredible production. With hilarious songs from Tim Minchin and incredible dance numbers, you’ll practically skip all the way home! A very inspirational tale for all.

Billy Elliot (Victoria Palace Theatre)

It’s been almost 10 years since Billy Elliot first hit the West End and it’s remained an incredibly popular show since. The story focuses on a young boy with a passion for ballet and a wonderful relationship with his kooky dance teacher. It’s a great show for really little children and teaches them to do what makes them happy, even in the face of adversity.
