Saving energy in winter

Winter is coming up and saving money on the bills might be something you are thinking about. With the darker, colder days comes use of the tumble dryer, heating and more hot water. All these extra hours spent using them adds to your bills and energy usage.

Happier Homes have some saving energy tips that may make you think about how you can start changing habits here and there for the better.

Did you know that…
-Cleaning with cold water saves energy and cuts your electric bill?
-Recycling one plastic 2 litre bottle could save enough energy to power a laptop for 5 hours or enough energy to power a CFL bulb for 19.8 hours?
-Recycling two metal soup cans could save enough energy to power a CFL bulb for 14.9 hours?
-Recycling the daily newspaper for seven days could save enough energy to run a laptop computer for 82.4 hours?
-You could use unto 11 times less water using a dishwasher than washing by hand?
-
-The eco cycle on your dishwasher could use less energy than a short cycle?
-Recycling three glass bottles could save enough energy to run a ceiling fan for 2.6 hours?
-Recycling two cardboard cereal boxes could save enough energy to run a laptop computer for six hours?

Recycling can really contribute to saving energy which is not something we often think of. Using less water seems a more obvious one but how many of us remember to turn the tap off when we're brushing our teeth? I know it sometimes slips my mind.

If we try and really make a conscious effort, recycling and saving water can make such a huge difference. Just remember this when you think that recycling that one plastic bottle isn't worth it; it really is!

How will you be trying to save energy from now on?
